Meet Cathy

I was born, raised and educated in Townsville with my parents and four siblings in a working class environment.  My parents worked very hard to ensure that we all had access to a good education.  I grew up in an environment where the principles of social justice and human rights were clearly evident.  These values instilled in me that everyone deserves the right to a quality education, a job and somewhere to call home.

My husband and I were married in Townsville where we raised and educated our three children. I have lived in Townsville all of my life apart from three and half years; it is my home.

I started my working life as an apprentice hairdresser and at the age of eighteen I became a small business owner in partnership with my mother.  My husband and I have owned and operated a range of small businesses in the retail, hairdressing and vocational education and training industries for many years.

I have worked in the TAFE sector in a teaching and project management role as well as the community sector as a CEO for thirteen years.

My passion and commitment to life long learning encouraged me to continue studying and I have achieved a range of tertiary education qualifications. I am currently the CEO of a medium sized not for profit mental health organisation that operates in North and West Queensland, including Palm Island.

As the Member for Herbert I understand the importance of preparation, hard work and respect needed to represent our community. I will take up the fight to the Turnbull Government to ensure that Townsville gets its fair share of Federal Infrastructure Funds to kick start our economy and create local jobs.

I will continue to fight for job security and workers’ rights; quality education, affordable and accessible health care and childcare, a fair deal for the defence personnel and pensioners and a better deal for small business. I will endeavor to fight so that the people of Townsville have a strong local voice in Canberra and I will strive to deliver a fair go for all Townsville residents.
