Keep up to date on Labor's plan for Herbert

I will not stand by and let this federal government continue to destroy the very fabric of our society.

Dear Editor

I would like to say a very big thank you to the sponsors of the Queensland Music Festival's One Hundred and One Years free concert that was held on Friday 17th July 2015.  My family and I sat under the twinkling stars on a beautiful clear winter's night at Jezzine Barracks experiencing a wonderful night of entertainment.

Music is a magnificent medium to access memories of the past and this is particularly so when we talk about war.  This concert featured messages from soldiers on the front line to loved ones at home along with the ballads and music of the era.  The audience was treated to three superb bands and a number of glorious singers.

This concert brought home to me the large number of young men who lost their lives fighting for our freedom, as well as those soldiers who came home both physically and emotionally wounded.  The vast numbers of women who served in military hospitals around the world, looking after injured soldiers.  Australian men and women continue to this very day fighting overseas to protect our freedom.

Australia has been known as the lucky country, but sadly it seems that this is rapidly changing.  Our current federal government seems focussed on taking away our hard earned freedom, we are living in a country where promoting fear is the order of the day.

We have a federal government that is rushing to enter into Free Trade Agreements that will see the removal of labour marketing testing.  This will leave the door wide open for foreign companies to bring in their own workers at the expense of our local workers.

We have a federal government that believes in the concept of small government, which in real terms is code for privatisation and letting the marketplace determine demand, regardless of whether or not the marketplace is best placed to deliver.

I can assure you that I will not stand by and let this federal government continue to destroy the very fabric of our society.  I am sure that generations of Australian men and women have not gone to war to protect our freedom and democracy for us to elect a government that is hell bent on selling off our country and our jobs.
