National Partnership on Remote Housing
Malcolm Turnbull’s third budget slashes $1.5 billion from the remote Indigenous housing and employment program over the next four years.
This cut to funding for remote housing will in fact abolish the program and shows just how little the Turnbull Government cares about improving the lives of First Australians.
Labor has condemned the Turnbull Government for this devastating cut to the National Partnership on Remote Housing.
Abolishing the National Partnership will mean 7 jobs lost on Palm Island.
These are devastating job losses for a community that is desperately trying to provide employment and economical sustainability.
The Government has done nothing to reverse the $500 million cuts that it made to the Indigenous Affairs Portfolio in 2014.
Under the Turnbull Government, Indigenous Affairs has been neglected, and the Close the Gap Strategy has been left to languish.
The Turnbull Government is more interested in giving an $80 billion to banks and big business than in Closing the Gap.
This Government’s priorities are all wrong.
