Senate Inquiry into Mefloquine and Tafenoquine

I welcome Labor’s announcement regarding a Senate Inquiry into Mefloquine and Tefenoquine as I have lobbied hard in Canberra for this Inquiry.

I have been meeting with veterans and families on the use of Quinoline anti-malarial drugs before I came into this role.

I know the use of Mefloquine and Tefenoquine is of major concern for current and ex serving members not only in the Townsville community but also around the nation.

This is a very important issue and we must remember and understand that we are talking about people’s lives.

Labor’s announcement demonstrates that people affected have a right to have their voices heard and that their input is also valued.

I have always said that this issue deserves an open and honest discussion.

There needs to be transparency and the only way to achieve this is through a Senate Inquiry

I want to thank the many people that have shared their stories with me about this issue over the years. It is through your courage and determination that we have reached this point.

I will continue to listen to and work with our veteran and ex serving community on this important issue.
